Granite State Timekeepers

"Restoration of an “Evolution” Banjo
Presenter: Edmund Cornwell

Ed’s talk will focus on his upcoming restoration of a particular “banjo style” clock that is an evolution to the 1st generation improved timepiece. This “evolution banjo”” originally had a strike mechanism with a visible bell mounted on top of the case. Many of the strike parts are missing, and the top of the case is missing a significant portion. Edmund will share his insights and
planned approach to preserving, refurbishing, and restoring this clock.

Edmund Cornwell has been restoring antique clock movements and cases for more than 30 years. He was first introduced to antique clocks through his furniture restoration business in the 1980’s. As an early member of New England Chapter 8, Ed attended workshops and seminars to learn the inner workings of period clock movements. At the same time, he applied his talent for woodworking to the restoration of antique clock cases. Always a student, Ed is an active
member of the Granite State Timekeepers (Chapter 189), where he enjoys learning from his fellow horologists and clock repair masters. Ed continues to enjoy the process of finding, evaluating, and restoring antique time pieces of all shapes and sizes for his own collection and for others.
