In this two-day introductory workshop, participants will learn the basic skills and techniques needed to use the micro-lathe. This hands on workshop is open to all interested individuals. Although the class will focus on the horological techniques, other subjects will be covered as well. Machining procedures covered in this course are the same ones used by manufacturers to produce watch and clock parts. The following topics will be covered: • Modern lathe characteristics • Machinable metal exercises • Use of measuring tools • Setting up lathe tools • Turning • Boring, drilling, and knurling • Screw cutting • Pivot straightening and repivoting Equipment and Materials: All materials, supplies and machinery will be provided. Be sure to bring safety glasses to wear when using the lathe and any magnification devices (visors) you may need. A supply of safety glasses and magnification visors will be available if needed.
